‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Could Be Coming To Broadway

McCollum revealed his plans to theAP.The Devil Wears Pradamusical is part of a deal he entered in 2013 to turn Fox movies into musicals. He’s been busy working on the stage adaptations ofEver AfterandDiary of a Wimpy Kid. The former begins its run at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey later this month, and the latter is set up at the Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis.
In addition, McCollum has plans to bring aMrs. Doubtfiremusical to Broadway. We heard earlier this year that Alan Menken was composing the music for that project, with David Zippel writing the books and Harvey Fierstein writing the book (i.e., the script). At the time, Menken would only say that the project was “in its early stages.”

All four have theater experience, though only Streep and Tucci have done Broadway, and all four have movie musical experience. However, it’s unclear whether any of them will be involved in theDevil Wears Pradamusical for the stage.
As far as movie-to-musical ideas go, aDevil Wears Pradashow isn’t a bad one. It’s a crowdpleasing tale full of glitzy moments and song-and-dance-worthy emotions. Plus, it’ll give some Broadway grand dame a chance to sink her teeth into the same role that earned Meryl Streep her 80,000th Oscar nomination.
McCollum knows a thing or two about creative types struggling to get by in New York City, having producedRentandAvenue Q. His other Broadway credits includeHigh Fidelityand theWest Side Storyrevival, and the current productionsSomething Rotten!andHand to God. In all, he’s earned four Tony Awards and another several Tony nominations.
