‘Terminator: Genesis’ Has The “Same Feel” As ‘Terminator 2’

Not a lot has been confirmed so far about the plot ofTerminator: Genesis, other than the fact that it’ll involve some time-travel elements. But in terms of the movie’s tone,Arnold Schwarzeneggersays it’ll have the “same feel” as 1991’sTerminator 2: Judgment Day. What it won’t be like, according to the Terminator, is directorAlan Taylor’s last movie,Thor: The Dark World.

Of course, capturing that sameT2vibe will be a lot easier if Taylor is allowed to aim for an R rating. And on that front, Schwarzenegger confesses he isn’t really sure what’s going to happen. Hit the jump to read Schwarzenegger’s comments.

[Terminator: Genesis] is going to have the exact same feel. The way it reads, it has the same feel of Terminator 2. It’s big. There’s hardcore action and it has some really great visual effects in there, but not over the top. It’s not a Thor type of movie, even though it’s the same director. It has good special effects, but just enough to say, “Wow, where did that come from? How did they do that?”

Despite that, Schwarzenegger admitted that he didn’t know whether the next movie would have an R rating. To date, everyTerminatormovie but 2009’sTerminator Salvationhas been rated R, and fans were none too thrilled with the PG-13 action in that one. Executive producerMegan EllisononcepromisedthatTerminator: Genesiswould have an R rating “as God andJames Cameronintended,” but that was before she decided topull outas a co-financier.

Whatever the movie winds up being rated, though, Schwarzenegger just sounds happy to be a part of it.

I think that it’s just so wild to have a franchise that has been around for that long, and then after 30 years, to get asked again to be the only character in a movie that is the same character is unheard of, in movie history. You always switch out, like with James Bond and Batman. They have new characters there. But, not here. That, to me, is an extraordinary situation and a great opportunity. Of course, I was honored when I was asked to come back and play the character with Sarah Connor.

Terminator: Genesisshoots next month in New Orleans and arrives in theaters nationwide onJuly 1, 2015.Emilia Clarke,Jason Clarke, andJai Courtneystar.
