Sequel Bits: ‘Hatchet 3,’ ‘Star Trek 2,’ ‘Scary Movie 5,’ And ‘Prometheus’

From the Eighties, Nineties and up through today, this edition of sequel bits spans the decades. After the jump read about the following:

The thirdHatchetfilm,Hatchet 3, is now filming in Louisana andthe Hollywood Reporterhas some interesting casting news. Camera operatorB.J. McDonnellis directing the film, which was written by series creator and director of the first two films,Adam Green. It’ll once again follow the murderous exploits of Victor Crowley but, this time, he’ll have some ’80s stars at the end of his hatchet.

First up isZach Galligan, a name you may not recognize, but a face you definitely do. He was the start of bothGremlinsmovies and will play the head of local law enforcement in the film. He’ll be joined byCody Blue Snider, son of Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider, playing a deputy.

We may not know exactly whoBenedict Cumberbatchis playing inJ.J. Abrams’Star Trek 2but, in this interview he did with the BBC (viaTrek Movie), you can tell he certainly enjoyed the experience. He also explains a bit of why he can’t say who he’s playing. It starts at 1:15, before that isSherlocktalk.

Speaking ofStar Trek 2, actorMichael Dorn– who famously played Worf onThe Next GenerationandDeep Space Nine– toldTrek Moviehe was asked to appear inStar Trek 2but the production changed their minds after he said “yes.” Here’s the quote:

They called in November or December of last year and said “Hey, we would like to know if Michael is interested in playing a part of an officer – a soldier.” And we said “yes.” Then time went by and we finally talked to them at maybe the end of January or February and they said they had changed their mind and that’s as far as it went.

Malcolm Lee(Roll Bounce, Undercover Brother) is gearing up to directScary Movie 5from a script by David Zucker and a report fromVariety(viaBloody Disgusting) confirmes that it’ll spoof films such asBlack Swan(as we knew), Paranormal Activity, Rise of the Planet of the Apesand127 Hours. Who’s excited? Anyone?
