Sequel Bits: ‘Creed 2,’ ‘Predator 3,’ ‘Trainspotting 2,’ ‘Bond 25’
Welcome back to Sequel Bits, the handy-dandy collection of everything you need to know about the follow-ups to movies you (maybe, possibly) already love! In today’s edition:
Creedmade $42 million in its first five days of release, soof coursethey’re already talking about a follow-up. Sure, some of the originalRockysequels were less than inspiring, but a future Creed movie probably won’t have the nerve to featureMichael B. Jordandefeating ISIS in the boxing ring. In any case,Jordan is totally down to play Adonis Creed again, saying:

We don’t know much about the upcomingPredatorsequel/reboot, but we do know that 20th Century Fox showcased some really good taste by hiringShane BlackandFred Dekkerto pen the screenplay. Black, who drastically rewrote (and appeared in) the originalPredator, has since become the director of underseen gems likeKiss Kiss, Bang Bangand stronger-than-most superhero movies likeIron Man 3. Dekker is best known for helmingNight of the CreepsandThe Monster Squadback in the day. In other words, they’re a great team to resurrect one of the great movie monsters of all time. Oh, they’ve just finished the screenplay, too. Dekker let everyone know on Facebook:
(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

Milla Jovovichhas been teasingResident Evil: The Final Chapterfrom her Instagram account, giving her followers glimpses of the set and her co-stars. In one intriguing photo, she shared a look at her genetically modified action heroine, Alice, as an old woman. Since she insists that this isn’t from some kind of epilogue, we’ll leave you to figure out what this could mean.

20 years afterDanny Boylesmashed his way into the mainstream withTrainspotting, he’s finally preparing to revisit the Edinburgh drug scene again to see how his cast of characters are holding up.Robert Carlyle, who played Begbie in the original film,has read the screenplayfor the sequel and he has some high praise:

It’s one of the best scripts I’ve f–cking read. I mean, ever.
Like so many long-time-coming sequels, theTrainspottingfollow-up (which is loosely based on the original novel’s sequel,Porno) with catch up with the same character two decades after we last saw them and will deal directly with how time has treated them:
People who came to see the original film when they were in their early twenties are very different people now. And the way John Hodge has put this thing down, obviously with the help of Danny Boyle, is to make it about how the characters' lives have moved on… or have they?
The remake ofJean-Claude Van Damme’sKickboxerisn’t even out yet andthey’re already working on a sequel. It even has a title and everything:Kickboxer 2: Retaliation. Whether this is a sign of confidence in the original film or an attempt to load up your local Redbox with as many schlocky martial arts movies as possible remains unknown. The first film, which starsAlain Moussias the titular warrior, Van Damme as his mentor, andDave Bautista,Gina Carano, andGeorge St. Pierreas various allies and enemies, will arrive in 2016.
It seems that people really missed Derek Zoolander.Ben Stiller’s constantly in-over-his-head male model is back inZoolander 2early next year and the audiences have spoken: with 52.2 million views within the first week of its release, thetrailer has become the most watched comedy trailersince, well, whenever people starting tracking these numbers. The previous record holder wasDumb and Dumber Too, which debuted with 49 million views.
Daniel Craighas not been shy about his frustration with playing James Bond and the mixed reaction toSpectreprobably has him rethinking whether or not he’s ready to undergo another few years of pain and stress for the character. However,Barbara Broccoli, the executive producer of the 007 franchise, isdoing whatever she can to keep Craig in play. After all, the next entry in the series is the 25th Bond movie. You don’t want to screw that one up. Here’s her quote:
And finally, a new poster for the upcoming revival ofThe X-Filesis here and it’s fairly straightforward. Yeah, just put Mulder and Scully’s mugs inside a big “X.” That’ll do.
