Robert Downey Jr. Talks ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ And Taking A Huge Avengers Prop
We’re still a few weeks away from the debut ofCaptain America: Civil War, but tonight brings screenings for fans in 25 major cities around the United States. That means you should probably start to get a little more leery about spoilers on social media, but the good news is that theearly buzz has already indicatedthat the movie is pretty damn spectacular.
However, the cast ofCaptain America: Civil Waris already starting their promotional tour, and they kicked things off with a takeover ofJimmy Kimmel Livethis week. Team Captain Americaappeared on the show on Monday, theDoctor Strangetrailer premiered there on Tuesdayand last night Team Iron Man paid a visit to the show.
But before his team came out to speak with Jimmy Kimmel, it was justRobert Downey Jr.as the first guest, where he talked about his potential involvement inSpider-Man: Homecoming(which is the official title now) and the giant prop that he took from the set ofThe Avengers: Age of Ultron. Find out what he had to say about the possibility of Iron Man inSpider-Man Homecomingafter the jump.
Here’s the interview segment with Robert Downey Jr. talking about the new Spider-Man on Jimmy Kimmel:
In addition to having some kind words to say aboutTom Hollandas the wall-crawler inCivil War, Downey addressed whether or not Iron Man would be involved inSpider-Man: Homecoming. The film was just given the official title at CinemaCon, andKevin Feigerecently said that some of the Avengers, like Iron Man and Captain America, could appear in the standalone movie. Kimmel didn’t hesitate to ask about the possibility of Downey appearing in the Spidey movie in the above clip, and here’s what the actor had to say:
Perhaps I will. We don’t have a contract yet.
It’s as simple as that. The good news is that Downey followed up this business detail by talking about his love for the webslinger since it’s the superhero that he loved the most as a kid. Since Downey didn’t flat-out deny the possibility of Iron Man joining Spider-Man for his first standalone movie in the Marvel cinematic universe, it sounds like that will probably happen.
Later in the show, Downey was joined by Team Iron Man, includingDon Cheadle, Paul BettanyandEmily VanCamp(sadly, Chadwick Boseman was not in attendance) to talk about the movie. In their discussion, Jimmy Kimmel asked if any of them had taken a prop home from the set. Cheadle seems like he took something but didn’t want Marvel to know. Meanwhile, Downey has something a bit ostentatious from the set ofThe Avengers: Age of Ultron, but we wouldn’t expect anything less. Here’s the clip:
If the title didn’t give it away, Downey explains that he took the giant Avengers “A” logo from the new facility that we see at the end ofThe Avengers: Age of Ultron. Apparently it was just sitting around in London in storage, and Downey said he wanted it for his office back in Los Angeles. It must be nice to be Tony Stark.
Stay tuned for plenty more Marvel coverage as the debut ofCaptain America: Civil WaronMay 6gets closer.
