Nathan Fillion Twitter-Campaigning To Star In ‘Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune’

If there ever was a pitch perfect piece of has-to-happen casting, it would beNathan Fillionas Nathan Drake. Fillion is the dashing, charismatic star of the current television showCastlewho is best known for his role as the cocky, confident Captain Malcolm ‘Mal’ Reynolds in Joss Whedon’sFireflyuniverse. Drake is the star of theUnchartedvideo game series (seen above), which is about a cocky, confident relic hunter in the mold of Indiana Jones, armed with a quicker tongue and a bigger penchant for violence. Well, last week, afterThree KingsdirectorDavid O. Russellofficially signedto rewrite and direct a big screen adaptation of the firstUnchartedvideo game,Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, for Sony, Fillion sent out the bat signal to his 650,000 or soTwitter followersto campaign that he get the role. Hit the jump for more.

After news broke that David O. Russell would be working on the film, Fillionposted the following on Twitter:

If ever there was a Twitter campaign, let this be it. Rise, ye Browncoats. Rise, ye Castillions. RISE!

He then linked tothis Deadlinestory about the film, urging his fans to post on the message board on his behalf. And they did.

“Nathan Fillion for Nathan Drake! Nathan Fillion for Nathan Drake! Nathan Fillion for Nathan Drake! Nathan Fillion for Nathan Drake”

Two words: Nathan Goddamn Fillion

And on and on and on. There are well over 300 comments.

While Fillion is physically perfect for the role and has demonstrated his ability to play a character like Drake over and over, the biggest question will be that of marketing. Assuming the film has a big budget, they might want a more recognizable star to sell the film. It’s not likeUnchartedis a well known franchise. On the flip side, hiring Fillion can cut costs and maybe the high octane action and exotic settings will be what sells the film, not the star.

Doesn’t Drake look JUST like Fillion? I can officially say Fillion is my choice to play Nathan Drake inUncharted: Drake’s Fortune.
