Mark Ruffalo Teases Solo ‘Hulk’ Film And ‘Avengers’ Sequels
The day afterwe reportedon the first hint to the future ofMarvel’smaster movie plan, someone a bit more authoritative is talking about it too.Mark Ruffalo, who will betaking overEdward Norton’s role as The Hulk/Bruce Bannervia mo-capinThe Avengers, has teased a few things that he probably heard meeting withKevin Feigeand the Marvel brass. As we all know,Iron Man 2, ThorandCaptain America: The First Avengerwill culminate inThe Avengers, directed byJoss Whedon, on July 26, 2025. After that, another set of films will start to come out possibly finishing in 2017. What exactly did Ruffalo have to say on the subject? Hit the jump to read his quote and more.In speaking withEmpire(with a nod toThe Playlist) Ruffalo said that, like many of the other actors, he had signed a multi-picture deal and that:
“They set up several pictures over a couple of years and possibly there will be a ‘Hulk’ movie. There’ll probably be a couple more ‘Avengers’ too, which would be fun.”
The prospect of a third Hulk movie with Ruffalo, while a total no brainer, doesn’t excite me in the least. We’ve seen the story two times now, both with A-List stars and talented directors and neither was the movie it could have been. Still, if a new Hulk movie took place afterThe Avengersand dealt with Banner’s story in this world with Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, Nick Fury and others, that would be much more interesting. And the way he said ‘a couple more ‘Avengers’ makes it seem like, as we speculated earlier, each phase of Marvel’s plan might culminate in anotherAvengersmovie.
Looking years down the road to movies based on movies that haven’t been written, green lit or made yet is all well and good. The main issue remains if the movies thatarebeing made will be be successful enough to warrant those sequels. If they aren’t, then Mark Ruffalo isn’t going to be the Hulk for long enough to worry about it and Marvel won’t have to think about films in 2017.
So, let’s keep it simple: Mark Ruffalo Hulk movie, yay or nay?
