‘Birdman’ Leads 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations, ‘Selma’ Snubbed
Some of the critics groups have given out their prizes already, but the race to the Oscar is just getting started. This morning Screen Actors Guild announced its list of nominees for the 2015 awards, withBirdmanandHouse of Cardsemerging as two big favorites.
For the most part they went as predicted, but there were also a few big surprises to keep us on our toes. Read the full list of 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations after the jump.
As widely predicted,The Theory of EverythingandThe Imitation Gameput in great showings with 3 nominations each. ButBirdmanbeat them both out with 4, andBoyhooddid better than expected with 3. Outside of the films considered frontrunners for this awards season,Jake Gyllenhaal(Nightcrawler),Jennifer Aniston(Cake), andNaomi Watts(St. Vincent) also managed to snag some recognition.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t room for everyone, andSelmagot totally shut out. Also out of the running for the SAG areUnbroken,American Sniper, andA Most Violent Year. It’s still possible they’ll rally and go on to win big at the Oscar, but it’ll be that much harder without a SAG nomination under their belts.Over in the TV categories,Modern Familyproved the comedy to beat with 4 total nominations, whileHouse of Cardsnetted 3 on the drama side. NeitherMad MennorGirlsgot any attention, andThe Knickfailed to break through despite its pedigree. On the bright side, though,Tatiana Maslanyfinally got a little love forOrphan Black, andOrange Is the New Blackpicked up a Best Comedy Ensemble nod.Theatrical Motion PicturesOutstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
